Ungru limestone

The stone is named Ungru after Ungru castle that is located beside the road leading to Rohuküla port and which is one of the grandest and well-known buildings made of that specific stone.

This is a slightly dolomitic limestone that was formed approximately 350 million years ago in heavy wave area of the low tropical sea. That is why Ungru limestone has a characteristic structure, the beautiful colours and pattern of which are revealed when the stones are processed.
